Kelvin Water Generator – Part Deux

This Tuesday night we celebrated Thanksgiving Early by feasting on Chinese food, Taco Bell, and working on our Lord Kelvin water generator.

This was our second attempt at creating enough charge to create a spark, and haven gotten pretty far the first time around (with a much crappier setup), hopes were high. Theo, Kevin, Rick, Jennifer and I (Jack) got together in the evening and gave it another try.

This time around we used a  6 gallon beer brewing bucket as our water source and attached it to a nifty water splitter that Kevin created out of PVC. Pics Below:

If if you’re still reading this, you’re probably asking yourself, “did it work???”
The short answer is, “NO.”

Despite our more organized effort, we weren’t able to read any charge whatsoever, AND to make matters worse,  Theo says the Chinese food from last week was better.

So it’s back to the drawing board. Stay tuned for round 3…

I suspect that the humid air in the SoFla environment tends to diffuse the static charge before it can build up very much. Perhaps it would work in a very cool air conditioned environment might have low enough humidity.

You are correct; It kind of works inside but outside it has no chance; which is a shame because I wanted to do more electrostatic discharge experiments.
